Laundry and Dishwashing for a New Care Home
Northcare Scotland commissioned Thain Commercial to design, supply and install the laundry and dishwashing equipment for its new 60-bed care home at Drumby in Clarkston.
The development required a main laundry, a separate self-service laundrette for assisted living residents and dishwashing equipment for several food-service areas. Thain Commercial planned the installation around the available space and project budget, with ongoing maintenance considered from the outset.
A Main Laundry and Resident Self-Service Facility
Thain Commercial prepared layout drawings and an equipment specification to meet the care home’s laundry requirements. As an Electrolux Professional partner, the team supplied and installed Clarus Vibe washers as part of the main laundry.
A separate self-service laundrette within the assisted living suites gave residents who could manage their own washing the opportunity to retain that part of their independence. The two facilities supported different needs within the same development.
Heat-Pump Dryers to Reduce Running Costs
The laundry specification also included heat-pump tumble dryers, selected to help Northcare reduce the ongoing energy costs of drying laundry.
Choosing lower-energy drying equipment addressed running costs alongside the initial installation budget. It also supported the care home’s aim of reducing its carbon footprint and creating a more sustainable laundry operation.
Dishwashing for Five Serveries and a Communal Brasserie
The care home’s dishwashing requirements extended across five individual servery areas and a communal brasserie and lounge. The specification therefore needed to address several food-service locations within the building, alongside the separate laundry facilities.
As a Miele Professional partner, Thain Commercial specified, supplied and installed Miele Professional catering dishwashers for these areas. Planning the dishwashing provision as part of the wider project brought the laundry and catering equipment requirements together under one installation programme.
Commissioning and Continued Support
Thain Commercial installed and commissioned the laundry and dishwashing equipment, then took on the ongoing service and maintenance requirements of the machines.
This continued an established relationship with Northcare Scotland, providing support from the initial layout design through to keeping the installed equipment operating effectively.
